Don’t you find it so disturbing when titles and awards are handed out to key figures around the world who have not earned their new found status? Barrack Obama as we all know received the Nobel Peace Prize soon after he took office and the whole word was asking why? It is a know fact that many people that are guilty of war crimes or who just happen to hold some very sensitive information are rewarded with a Knighthood to shut them up
In a recent Youtube clip, talk show host Alex Jones describes himself as the most influential leader of the Patriot/Tea Party revolt, next to Rep. Ron Paul. Many would disagree. Yet he inarguably has the power to influence and mislead many. A tactic of the intellectually dishonest is to mock or defame their opponent instead of responding to their facts. On Youtube, Jones can be heard repeatedly using this strategy to oppose critics of Israel. "What I want to say is this I support Israel. It is their land it is the UN that has declared them terrorists. The UN supports groups that want to dissolve Israel" (Youtube: 'Alex Jones - "I Support Israel Its Their Land" Zionism') Jones ignores the 65 years of abuse of Palestinians and violations of international law that cause the UN to criticize Israel. He vilifies other critics of the Jewish state: "I watch these Nazi and anti-Israel groups. They're a bunch of scum."(Youtube: 'Alex Jones on Israel critics: "weak minded idiots"...')
Barring a last-minute miracle, 41-year-old Teresa Lewis will be unjustly put to death by lethal injection at 9 p.m. tonight at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Va. Her final appeal was blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this week.
The Iranian president's remarks at the UN general assembly prompted a series of walk-outs led by US delegates Link to this video President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran has accused the US government of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks to prop up Israel.
By all accounts, 14 anti-war activists made history last week in a Las Vegas courtroom when they turned a misdemeanor trespassing trial into a possible referendum on America's newfound taste for remote-controlled warfare. The so-called Creech 14, a group of peace activists from across the country, went on trial Sept. 14 to face allegations they trespassed onto Creech Air Force Base in April 2009. From the start of the trial, prosecutors did their best to keep the focus on whether the activists were guilty of illegally entering Creech property and refusing to leave to protest the base's role as the little-known nerve center for U.S. military operations involving unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, over Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. But, in a surprising turn of events, the activists dashed prosecutors' hopes for a quick decision.
The “poverty summit” that concluded at the United Nations Wednesday served to expose capitalism’s responsibility for the poverty and hunger confronting billions of people across the planet. Despite vows by the UN and the major powers over the past decade to ameliorate these conditions, the desperation and misery of the world’s most oppressed layers have only deepened as a result of imperialist predations and the shocks arising from the global financial crisis.
The US Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to block the state of Virginia from executing Teresa Lewis, a 41-year-old grandmother. Barring an unlikely last minute stay-of-execution from Governor Robert McDonnell, Lewis will be injected with a lethal poison on Thursday, becoming the first woman put to death by Virginia since 1912.
Why scare tactics people with the idea that the Social Security Trust Fund will run out in a few decades have no basis in reality. You’ve no doubt heard about how the Social Security Trust Fund is projected to run out of cash a few decades down the line. What you may not have heard is that it might not run out at all; in fact, it may well continue to back-stop the popular program indefinitely. If you want to know just how contrived the Social Security "crisis" really is, consider that the trust fund, created by a bipartisan act of good governance that’s almost inconceivable today, is doing exactly what it was designed to do, and more so. It is nonetheless cited by “entitlement” fearmongers as evidence that the program is unsustainable, a fiscal trainwreck just waiting to happen.
A meeting between Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Israeli deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon ended abruptly yesterday. The dispute followed the Israeli deputy foreign minister’s demand that the meeting’s summary should refer to the notion of ‘two states for two peoples,’ rather than just ‘two states.’
Today’s grizzly bears of Yellowstone are staring down the greatest threat to their survival since the park was founded in 1872. The most important bear food in this ecosystem, the nuts of whitebark pine trees, has succumbed to an infestation of mountain pine beetles, an invasion made possible from the persistent trend of warmer winter temperatures in the high mountains. Punctuating the controversy raging around the consequences of climate change on bears, two people have been killed by grizzlies during 2010 on the eastern edge of Yellowstone National Park--the first time in history two human deaths have been recorded in that ecosystem during a single year, a year that is far from over.
UN Gaza aid probe says the raid of Israeli forces on flotilla was in violation of international law. Nine activists were killed in the Gaza flotilla raid for which Israel may be prosecuted. The UN Human Rights Council's fact-finding mission has accused Israeli forces of violating international law when they raided a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. The three UN-appointed human rights experts said in a report released on Wednesday that Israeli forces showed "incredible violence" during and after their raid on the aid flotilla that left eight Turkish activists and one Turkish-American killed.
