Hearst Newspapers announced the “resignation” of Thomas Monday a day after her comments were widely publicized in the media.

So to hear him tell the Congress to cut the deficit is a bit like an arsonist telling firemen to extinguish fires.

Iraq is still beset by security problems with suicide bombings occurring regularly. A group of about 60 failed Iraqi asylum seekers have been forcibly deported from several EU countries to Baghdad. The move sparked anger from human rights and refugee groups who believe the situation in Iraq is too dangerous for them to return.

The British Broadcasting Corporation is showering Afghan cable networks with lucrative deals to cut broadcastings of Iran's English-language news channel, Press TV. The Press TV bureau in Kabul was informed on Wednesday that "a number of BBC employees have recently contacted the cable networks' union in Herat to persuade them into breaking contract with Press TV and blocking all satellite transmission of its programs."
