Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says that Sen. Jim Bunning was "brave" for blocking an extension in unemployment benefits. DeLay subscribes to the notion that people only try to find jobs when their benefits run out. "There is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits, keep people from going and finding jobs," he told CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday.
The American Civil Liberties Union today published a full-page ad in the New York Times calling on President Obama not to back down from his administration’s decision to prosecute the 9/11 suspects in civilian courts. The ad comes in response to news reports that the Obama administration is on the verge of reversing Attorney General Eric Holder's November decision, turning instead to the discredited military commission system.

As I write this the earth is again shaking. The aftershocks of Chile's earthquake, which experts say was at least 600 to 800 times stronger than the one in Haiti, are almost impossible to count. A few days ago there was a particularly strong one at 6:20 in the morning that sent journalists staying at a small hotel in downtown Concepcion running out the door in their underwear. I was better dressed for the occasion.

"Today is a big day in America. Only 36,000 people lost their jobs today, which is really good," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gleefully proclaims on the Senate floor. Harry Reid is not really happy with the loss of 36,000 jobs. He is just happy if the American people are silly enough to accept this as really good news.
