The discovery of a 240-million-year-old dinosaur in southern Tanzania has led scientists to rethink their evolution. An almost complete skeleton of the species, Asilisaurus kongwe or “ancient lizard ancestor” was reconstructed using the remains of at least 14 other dinosaurs.

It is a night of glittering statues, pristine red carpets and gracious speeches. But behind the air-kisses, smiles and displays of magnanimity at the annual Oscars ceremony, dirty, though often expensive, battles go on, with competitors more than willing to knife each other if it means taking home a trophy. After all, winning means more business at the box office and higher fees in the future. Not to mention the bragging rights and publicity.

Two German converts to Islam and two Turkish men were convicted today over a foiled 2007 plot to attack US targets in Germany, and given prison sentences ranging up to 12 years. The four men, operating as a German cell of the radical Islamic Jihad Union, had plotted bombing attacks against American citizens and facilities, including the US Air Force's Ramstein air base in Germany, the Düsseldorf state court found.

So the Bunning blockade is over. For days, Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky exploited Senate rules to block a one-month extension of unemployment benefits. In the end, he gave in, although not soon enough to prevent an interruption of payments to around 100,000 workers.

Before Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) even began members of the Ontario Legislature and the Canadian Parliament are falling all over each other to denounce it. I can't remember another time when elected legislators formally denounced a student activity like this. Perhaps during the 1950s when McCarthyism was rampant but that was before my time.
