FIG. A- NASA: Stereo solar image, Jan. 23, 2010NASA’s Stereo spacecraft monitoring the Sun began registering huge spherical UFO’s in the vicinity of the Sun around January 18, 2010. According to one observer, the UFOs “appear to be moving as they are in different positions on many [of the NASA Stereo] photos, and are huge possibly at least the size of Earth. If the UFOs were planets or some type of huge asteroid comets, they would already have been pulled into the Sun by the strong gravity the Sun produces as in the case of the recent comet."
A classified cable from the United States ambassador in Kabul offers a bleak accounting of the Afghan leadership and the risks of sending additional troops to Afghanistan, according to report published in The New York Times reported Tuesday. Ambassador Karl Eikenb-erry warned his government in November that President Hamid Karzai “is not an adequate strategic partner” and “continues to shun responsibility for any sovereign burden.”

President Obama will use his State of the Union Address Wednesday night to call for a three-year freeze on discretionary social spending, sources inside the administration have told the press. The proposed austerity measures, which will be detailed February 1 in the administration’s 2011 budget proposal, signal the Obama administration’s determination to stabilize the national debt at the expense of the working class.

Millions of dollars of aid routed through foreign troops in Afghanistan to "win hearts and minds" have not only failed to tackle poverty but put the lives of ordinary Afghans at risk, aid agencies said in a report on Wednesday Nations contributing troops in Afghanistan are estimated to have channelled up to $1.7 billion since 2001 through their military for projects such as building schools in one of the world's poorest countries. And this amount is expected to rise rapidly.

America's leading human rights organisation has said that Barack Obama is falling far short of his rhetoric by continuing some of the abuses of George Bush's war on terror and by shielding foreign allies responsible for an assault on human rights activists not seen since the end of the cold war.

"Information Clearing House" - -The election of Republican Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate by Democratic voters in Massachusetts sends President Obama a message. Voters perceive that Obama’s administration has morphed into a Bush-Cheney government. Obama has reneged on every promise he made, from ending wars, to closing Gitmo, to providing health care for Americans, to curtailing the domestic police state, to putting the interests of dispossessed Americans ahead of the interests of the rich banksters who robbed Americans of their homes and pensions.

This past summer, President Obama announced that he had signed an agreement with Colombia to grant the U.S. military access to 7 military bases in Colombia. As the UK’s Guardian newspaper announced at the time, “[t]he proposed 10-year lease will give the US access to at least seven Colombian bases – three air force, two naval and two army – stretching from the Pacific to the Caribbean.” And, these bases would accommodate up to 800 military and 600 civilian contractors of the United States. As the Guardian explained, this announcement caused outrage in neighboring Latin American nations and “damaged Barack Obama's attempt to mend relations with the region.”
Rep. Darrell Issa, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has the goods on Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. Earlier this month, Issa received emails proving without a shadow of a doubt that the New York Fed under Geithner’s leadership withheld documents and delayed disclosures on AIG’s swindle operation with Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, and other international bankster criminal organizations.

Despite 234 years of progress toward the American ideal of equality for all, we still have to battle unfairness. How happy, then, to learn that a handful of our leaders in Washington took bold and forceful action last week to lift another group of downtrodden Americans from the pits of injustice, helping them gain more political and governmental power. I refer, of course, to corporations. Say what? Corporations should get more power over our elected officials? "Free the corporate money," cried the movement's leaders, demanding that America sever the few legal restraints that remain on corporate efforts to buy our elections. "Si, se puede," chanted these assertive champions of corporate supremacy -- "Yes, we can!"

Ominous developments in America have been a long time coming, in part precipitated by “we the people” – a citizenry that has been asleep at the wheel for too long. And while there have been wake-up calls, we have failed to heed the warnings. Just consider the state of our nation:

In a letter cosigned by nine US senators, President Barack Obama is urged to apply “crippling sanctions” on Iran immediately, warning that failure to do so imperils the entire planet as well as his credibility.

Remember the Pentagon Office of Special Plans that helped collect dubious intelligence that led to the war in Iraq? Or the program where the Pentagon secretly briefed military analysts to promote the Iraq war?
Indonesians, who welcomed Barack Obama as one of their own two years ago, now want a statue commemorating his Jakarta school years to be removed. The move is an obvious sign the US president's global appeal may be waning. The statue of Obama as a 10-year-old was installed in Menteng park in central Jakarta in December 2009 to mark the four years he attended a local primary school there while living in Jakarta.

The Washington Post's Dana Priest today reports that "U.S. military teams and intelligence agencies are deeply involved in secret joint operations with Yemeni troops who in the past six weeks have killed scores of people." That's no surprise, of course, as Yemen is now another predominantly Muslim country (along with Somalia and Pakistan) in which our military is secretly involved to some unknown degree in combat operations without any declaration of war, without any public debate, and arguably (though not clearly) without any Congressional authorization. The exact role played by the U.S. in the late-December missile attacks in Yemen, which killed numerous civilians, is still unknown.
