Hamid Karzai is expected in the next 48 hours to reach 50 per cent of votes cast in the Afghan elections, based on a partial count, giving him a theoretical victory in the race if the figures are reflected nationally. However, allegations of major fraud at the polls have more than doubled in the past two days to stand at 550, and these may affect the final outcome. NYT: Increasing Accounts of Fraud Cloud Afghan Vote: Afghan election officials said Sunday that the serious fraud reports that they were considering had suddenly doubled — from 270 to 550, in a development likely to stoke public outrage and perhaps even delay the official results past September.
