The Canadian immigration service announced earlier in March that Galloway would not be allowed entry on national security grounds. Canada cited the support Galloway extended to the Gaza Strip -- which suffers from a 20-month blockade and recent Israeli military operations -- and grouped the anti-war advocate among people who "support or engage in terrorism". Calling the ban "idiotic", Galloway vowed to use all means at his disposal to overturn the ruling. "The outrageous decision is not something I'm prepared to accept," Galloway said in mid March. The Canadian federal court nevertheless rejected his appeal to overturn the decision on Monday. Galloway had been due to deliver a planned speech in Toronto on March 30 at the Resisting War from Gaza to Kandahar public forum. Internet helps Galloway snub Canada ban (VIDEO).
The US defence secretary, Robert Gates, said America had no intention of shooting down the missile itself, which satellite photographs show is sitting on a launch-pad in Musudan-ri. Pyongyang says the launch is intended to put a satellite into orbit, but any such ballistic missile testing or development is banned by a 2006 United Nations resolution. Two US warships armed with Aegis anti-ballistic missiles left ports in South Korea yesterday to monitor the launch, which experts say could take place as soon as Saturday. PressTV: US warships creep into N. Korea backyard.
Facing mounting U.S. opposition behind the scenes, Israel still plans to continue a covert operation to delay Iran's nuclear program by assassinating key Iranian scientists, U.S. officials said. The Israeli program which has been in place for almost a decade, involves not only targeted killings of key Iranian assets but also disrupting and sabotaging Iran's nuclear technology purchasing network abroad, these sources said.
Major-General Andy Salmon, Britain's senior commander in Iraq, is slated to surrender the army's main base to the US command on May 31, the official end-of-combat date. Salmon, who is slated to return to the UK with most of Britain's 4000 troops, said Tuesday that the British military has scored major achievements in Iraq and will leave the country with their "heads held high". More than 1,320,000 Iraqis have been killed, according to justforeignpolicy.org
Israel has staged new air attacks on the Gaza Strip, inflicting more casualties on the blockaded territory, medical workers have confirmed. The air attacks came after exchanges of fire between Israeli troops and Palestinian fighters near the Kissufim border crossing to the east of Maghazi. Two other Palestinians had been wounded in the conflict. Gaza residents said the Israeli forces rolled 200 meters into the Palestinian-controlled territory.

Efforts to legally force teachers to pretend biologists seriously entertain alternative theories to evolution failed. Although you can't find any dissent in peer-reviewed journals or among legitimate scientists regarding Darwin's theory, evangelicals wanted to require teachers to point out "weaknesses" evolutionary scientists find scientifically flawed at best and out-and-out dishonest at worst.
A "high-ranking" member of al-Qaida was seized during a recent US mission in Afghanistan which left five people dead. But the Americans were set up: The tip-off as to his location came from a drug clan who wanted to get rid of a rival. The raid took place on March 21 in Kunduz province, where German forces are helping with security and reconstruction. A US liaison officer asked the German reconstruction team to keep the Kunduz airport clear but said nothing about the impending mission. Around half an hour later, a Hercules transport aircraft landed at the airfield, together with a whole fleet of combat and transport helicopters, which then took off for the nearby town of Imam Sahib.
The administration is using the threat of bankruptcy to extort the maximum in concessions from auto workers. It has already moved to guarantee the auto companies' warrantees and shore up their suppliers in preparation for pushing GM and/or Chrysler into Chapter 11 bankruptcy, where a judge could tear up existing labor agreements and free the companies of their pension and retiree health care obligations. Claiming he was not talking about a process where a company is "broken up, sold off and no longer exists," Obama said bankruptcy could be used as a tool that would make it easer for the two companies to "quickly clear away old debts weighing them down." Israel's war on Gaza has left 100,000 homeless, they have nowhere to go. Arab states have pledged millions of dollars to reconstruct Gaza, but the money has not come through. The people of Gaza have had enough of empty promises, they remain deeply skeptical as to whether the Arab summit will offer them anything other than rhetorical support. From Gaza, Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros reports on what residents want from this summit.
Netanyahu’s government will likely be the most overtly right-wing government the nation of Israel has ever had. It is outwardly racist, insisting that the state of Israel is exclusively a Jewish state, and has no intention whatsoever of ever allowing the Palestinian people to have a state of their own preferring instead to eventually be able to incorporate the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in to what they hope will become Greater Israel as the openly expansionist Zionists move into the West Bank and Jerusalem. The People's Voice: FASCIST RULE IN ISRAEL.
Tristan Anderson from California USA, 37 years old, has been taken to Israeli hospital Tel Hashomer, near Tel Aviv. Anderson is unconscious and has been bleeding heavily from the nose and mouth. He sustained a large hole in his forehead where he was struck by the canister. He is currently being operated on. [Part 2 of 3. Graphic!] TruthRocker: A Day With the Andersons (Obama's silence is deafening).
U.S. President Barack Obama signed sweeping land and water conservation rules into law on Monday, setting aside millions of acres as protected areas and delighting environmentalists. The measure, a package of more than 160 bills, would designate about 2 million acres -- parks, rivers, streams, desert, forest and trails -- in nine states as new wilderness and render them off limits to oil and gas drilling and other development.
Finally, Moulitsas’ relationship with the CIA makes perfect sense, as Daily Kos appears to be yet another political front operation tasked with cracking the whip over “progressive” Democrats and marching them off to support the Bilderberger Queen Hillary Clinton and her probable running mate, Barack Obama, both on record as supporting the neocon plan to reduce the Muslim world to a smoldering wasteland, albeit with stylistic policy changes. It is no secret the CIA has long stage managed the controlled opposition and Moulitsas’ admitted relationship with the agency should be considered a coup de grâce, an effort designed to reduce the “progressive” Democrat opposition to the invasion and occupation of Iraq and the impending attack to be leveled against Iran as little more than an empty and absurd rhetorical slogan.
I watched a report on Fallujah last week on Sky News by Lisa Holland for which she deserves our gratitude and a top television award. It featured a quietly spoken Iraqi neo-natal specialist, Dr Muntaha Hashim, who is finding that in that town, bombed and collectively punished by the allies, there has been a massive increase in the number of deformed babies. Dr Hashim sees children with two heads – one, a young girl with bountiful hair was curled up on a bed – and others limbless, or born without vital organs. The number has doubled since the days of Saddam. Some unidentified chemical weaponry is responsible. Pro-war politicians, dodgy spooks, spin doctors and unrepentant media warriors such as Christopher Hitchens still claim triumphantly the war was a victory of good over evil. Their own offspring will not be born with two heads and, they must believe, Iraqis are paying but a small price for 'freedom'. [Please support URUKNET]
The accused include former White House counsel and later US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and former Justice Department lawyer John Yoo, who authored the infamous "torture memo" that justified waterboarding and narrowly defined torture as acts that "would result in death, organ failure, or serious impairment of bodily functions." Also charged is Yoo's former boss in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel Jay Bybee; former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Douglas Feith; former General Counsel for the Department of Defense William Haynes; and David Addington, who was the former chief of staff and legal advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney. While most of those named in the complaint refused to comment, Douglas Feith, the former undersecretary of defense who was implicated in the fabrication of phony intelligence to justify the war against Iraq, claimed the charges "as related to me make no sense," adding that they accused him of "promoting a controversial position that I never advocated." The Spanish lawyer Boyé responded by advising Feith to read the complaint and get a "very good lawyer." Boyé added, "If he's so sure of what he is saying—then the address of the National Court is 22 Genova Street, second floor."
